Your 3rd-grade students will master their Houghton Mifflin Journeys reading vocabulary terms using this vocabulary notebook or journal. Students define the word, record a synonym, and use the word in a sentence. Students keep track of their terms in an ABC index in the back, where they can record the page number where each term is found. Also included is a “Vocabulary Brownie Points” sheet where students record each word they learn and get brownie points (mark a tally) each time they hear the word used elsewhere, see the word in another text, or use the word correctly themselves. This is a great strategy for vocabulary practice and retention.
