This New Year’s Day math symmetry activity is perfect for grades 1-3 and a great addition to any math center or winter, New Year, January art activity. You will love this classroom number line (numbers -24 to 200!) to wrap around your wall and use daily to keep track of the day of the school year, use for adding and subtracting, for number formation, and more! Move a colorful clip or marker each day to keep track of the Number of the Day and place another colorful clip on the number for the last day of school. Watch the distance between the two markers get smaller each day! Use the number grid to create a poster-size resource for your bulletin board. Students will also have their own number grids and number lines 0-10, 0-20 and/or 0-30 to use during instruction, centers, games or small group
instruction.
Your students will love to sort these word family words and sound sorts in this (easy to prepare and use) activities center! Using the sounds headers, students place the correct words under the correct headers. They then record their words on the included form. Students could also sort words on the floor or on a table. Simply print, laminate and cut out cards. Either print in color as shown, or print in black and white. You can even write in your own word families and words on the included blank cards! Store in Ziplock bags or plastic pencil boxes. These centers will be your go-to centers and will last for years. Students will want to use them over and over again!
Please note: This Christmas craft is hand-drawn. One of my teammates inherited this poinsettia project from her mother, who hand-drew the pieces in the early 1990s. The Poinsettia has been a classroom favorite of my team for many years, and it is very special to us. We do this project early in the holiday season with our students so we can decorate our classroom bulletin boards or doors. This craft is a perfect supplemental project for lessons on the Legend of the Poinsettia (Los Posadas) and Christmas in Mexico. These are beautiful, festive decorations that your students will love making.
This is the original Happy Go Home Note for positive behavior management and is our favorite way to celebrate a fabulous day! Use it to promote the positive behavior you want to see in your classroom. This can be sent home to communicate with parents when students reach “Pink” or the highest color on your clip chart!
When students can fluently read words with prefixes and suffixes, they are on their way to decoding multisyllabic words with ease. Definitions of prefixes and suffixes are included. Use these speed drills in small guided reading groups, centers, or to send home for practice. Soon your students will be reading those BIG words!
