You’ve almost made it to winter break! I feel like December is the month that truly flies by, but also drags on at the same time. There is so much to do, but that much-needed break is so close. If you read our Fall Planning Series, you know I love a good theme. December is no different! Welcome to Part 1 of our 3 part series for Winter.

December Activity Planning:

Keeping up with my themes, December is all about holiday magic for me. When planning out my month, I gather all of my holiday materials and think about what I can fit where. I know I want to start my month making poinsettias (more below!) and the Santa advent calendar. It helps us pass the time and gives a visual for students leading up to winter break. Stick around to see how I use different products throughout the month of December and grab THREE FREEBIES to help make your December magical in your classroom.

Monday: Math Monday (graphing)

Tuesday: Trace It Tuesday (symmetry)

Wednesday: Write About It Wednesday (spin a silly sentence and write)

Thursday: Think Hard Thursday (color the code)

Friday: Fun Friday (solve by code spelling)

Wondering why I keep putting the graphing activities on a Monday? Check out our sneak peek below to see some December options! I am used to collecting data by standard for standards-based report cards. So, I specifically use mine to take formative data for the standard 1.MD.C.4.

Represent and Interpret Data – Organize, represent, and interpret data with up to three categories; ask and answer questions about the total number of data points, how many in each category, and how many more or less are in one category than in another.

Personally, I like to have my students complete their poinsettia craft in early December and use it as a door decoration! I receive so many compliments throughout the month on how beautiful my door looks. Bonus: if you are doing any sort of Holidays Around the World unit, the Poinsettia is a wonderful craft often used to represent Mexico.
