Planning for All Things Fall: Part 2 - October 1

The leaves are changing, routines are settling in, and now holiday season is here. Great, right? Riiiiight. We all know that holiday season brings out those holiday jitters in our students! As I mentioned in my September Planning post, I love a good routine. Personally, if I stick to my routines that I set up at the beginning of the year, I am more successful in the busier months. Not sure how to fill your October? Stick around, and I’ll give you some great ideas! Welcome to Part 2 of our 3 part series for Fall.

Step aside apples, pumpkins are here to stay! Oh, and also ghosts, spiders, bats, and all that Halloween has to offer. Not allowed to do Halloween? Pop on over to our September Planning post to grab some fall activities that will work perfect through the entire season.

Monday: Math Monday (graphing)

Tuesday: Trace It Tuesday (symmetry)

Wednesday: Write About It Wednesday (directed draw)

Thursday: Think Hard Thursday (color the code)

Friday: Fun Friday (solve by code spelling)

Use the Frankie Puppet to help tell the cute story about a boy and his mom, Mrs. Stine, going trick or treating! Store the puppet in a paper pocket (template for paper pocket included) that is glued to the back of the book cover (or use a library book pocket). Watch your students read it over and over again! Check out our video for a sneak peek!

If you love using puppet books like I do, we have a lot more to choose from!

Ready, set, party! These are three of my favorite products to use during a Halloween party. My students love bingo, and this version is all about using their inferencing skills! Personally, I love to pair this bingo with some sort of pumpkin decorating activity as well.

Print and Play math games are ideal for stations during a party or during your centers during all of October!

Have fun with your students while practicing inference and listening skills by playing Halloween BINGO! Descriptions on calling cards are read and students must listen carefully to determine which Halloween picture matches the description.

Fire Safety week is usually the first full week of October. Learning important fire safety tips is something all teachers, students, and parents should be aware of. I’m very lucky to say I have a firefighter in my family and I’m so stinkin’ proud of my niece, Jenna! She’s a firefighter in Fort Collins, CO, and worked closely with me to create this very thorough and accurate Fire Safety Week Activities Packet to teach students during fire prevention month.
